Sandra's Baby Shower

Thursday night our church gave Sandra and Levi a baby shower. We had a wonderful turnout. I think about 35 people including the kids. Our pastor's wife graciously hosted the shower at her house!

We always have a short devotional at the beginning of our showers. It usually falls lot for the mother to give the devotional. I had a brilliant idea and called "grammy". Who is and has always been a very special part of Sandra's life. Mom wrote a very touching letter and I read it to Sandra at the shower. Mingled with a few tears of course. I thought I would post the letter:

Dear Sandra,

Nineteen plus years ago I took a little trip. Actually it was a "big trip". I drove by myself from Burlington, Ia. to Michigan to meet someone I had never met before. When I arrived, a very young couple presented me with a squirming bundle. The young couple was your mom and dad and the squirming bundle was you. It was love at first sight. You were my first Grandbaby and oh how you made me proud. Those few days I spent in Michigan were certainly fun days.

Soon afterwards, Papa and I moved and so did you and your
mom and Dad. We all settled in Milford, OH. I had the privilege of taking care of you and watching you grow and mature. You and Papa were great friends. When you especially liked something you would say this is my "favowite" Papa taught you your telephone number when he drove you from our house to your apartment, You earned $.25 for that one. Papa enjoyed carrying you in his arms while he prayed in his basement study. You wanted him to put his red sweater over the lamp because you said it was "pwetty". We have so many happy memories. We could talk about other things of those days, but it might "be embarassin to the whole family"

These 19 years I thought I was a pretty "great" Grammy, but now you and Zane have made my title official. I'm a Great Grandmother and Papa is a Great Grandpapa. Little Levi is our "first" Great Grandbaby. I'm sorry I haven't seen him or felt the warmth of his wiggles. I can, however, offer my advice.

Sandra, I want you and Zane to follow the Bible to train up Levi in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart. Your example is so important. Live your lives pleasing to the Lord and Levi will know that careful Christian living is what it takes to get us too heaven.

Here's a little more advice! Love Levi 4 times as much as any other child is loved and as he grows discipline him twice as much. This formula works, Try it, you will like it.
I surely wish I could be there and enjoy your shower. Think about me and know that I love you.

Love,
Grammy

It was very touching!! Sorry I don't have any pictures...I forgot my camera..bad grammy..Maybe some of my friends will be gracious enough and email me some..lol

I didn't get to tell you, but you did a great job on the devotions! I loved the letter from Grammy - and I think Sandra enjoyed it too.
